Rusty Eck Ford adds Omaha site
http://www.kansas.com/101/story/576970.html
| www.kansas.com wrote: | The national economic downturn isn't slowing Les Eck's auto group, which has purchased a dealership in Omaha and risen into the top 10 among 3,500 national Ford dealers in new car and truck sales volume.
Eck this month bought Anderson Ford in Omaha, now Rusty Eck Ford Omaha.
It's Eck's fourth location, joining businesses in Wichita, Hutchinson and St. Joseph, Mo. Ford and Toyota are the lead brands at the locations.
Eck said the Omaha dealership fell into his lap as he searched for a fourth site in the Midwest.
"I'd been looking for a new opportunity, and I got a call about this dealership that wasn't doing much. OK profit, but not a lot of business." |

Performance buys Mercedes-Benz of Omaha
http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1208&u_sid=10477365
| JOHN KEENAN WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote: | Omaha's Performance Automotive Group has purchased Mercedes-Benz of Omaha at 144th Street and Hillsdale Avenue.
Lithia Motors, based in Eugene, Ore., sold the dealership. The company announced last summer that it would sell or close a number of stores.
With the acquisition, Performance now owns 12 dealerships carrying domestic and imported vehicles in Omaha, La Vista, Lincoln and the Kansas City area.
The Mercedes-Benz franchise, once owned by Omaha auto titan Jim Earp, will remain at its current location.
Tal Anderson, chairman of Performance, said in a press release that the Mercedes-Benz franchise strengthens the company's luxury car lineup.
"We're proud to offer our customers this premier brand, one of the most respected names in the nation," Anderson said. "It's a great fit for the Omaha community, which represents a strong luxury market that continues to expand." |

Reagan Buick Pontiac GMC to close..
From the W-H:
'Reagan Buick Pontiac GMC Inc. at 185th Street and West Dodge Road closed its sales department Friday and will close its service department at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Ken Reagan, president of the dealership, announced the closing Friday afternoon in a press release.
The statement cited a "perfect storm" of economic conditions, including the recession, a lack of consumer confidence and changes imposed by General Motors and GMAC, the dealership's primary lender.
"The best course of action at the present time will be to end dealership operations," the statement said.
Reagan said he remained optimistic that he might sell the dealership.'..

| That completely came out of left field. I wonder if Reagan will be the only casualty in the Omaha auto market. |

The way I see it is that America is way too dependent on car sales. Everyone HAS to have a new car all the time to out do the neighbor because they can't out do each other with their carbon copy sitty suburban home. There is not a faster way to blow money except going to a casino. Then the economy tanks and people that should not be buying cars in the first place finally stop buying and dealerships close. _________________ Dodge-Street |

Lets hope it is..
My thought, as it relates to the tanking economy, is that businesses such as car dealerships etc, will have to weather the storm for the next 18 months..
It's really going to take a solid 2 years from now to start to see this turn around....

I live in an apartment directly across from the dealership and have a perfect view of the car lot from my window. I had noticed less and less cars in the lot from the past 6 months. I kind of seen it coming |

Metro Mitsubishi closes, joining another dealer
http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1208&u_sid=10597703
| JOSEPH BRENNAN WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote: | Metro Mitsubishi closed its auto dealership near Westroads Mall this weekend, but the company does not plan to exit the Omaha market.
Tony Anderson, sales manager for Mitsubishi, said Saturday that the business will reopen under new ownership in several weeks.
He said the dealership will merge with an existing auto dealer he declined to identify. Anderson said he is working to place current employees with the merged dealership.
Mitsubishi has operated in the Omaha area for 16 years, Anderson said, including 13 near the Southroads in Bellevue before moving to 1010 N. 102nd St. in Omaha about three years ago.
The Mitsubishi lot was virtually empty Saturday, the doors to the sales office locked.
Metro Mitsubishi is the second longtime car dealer in the Omaha market to shut down this year. Reagan Buick Pontiac GMC Inc., 185th Street and West Dodge Road, closed in January after 31 years.
Anderson said bad economic news and "a fear factor" among customers are depressing auto sales.
He said Mitsubishi sales in Omaha steadily declined over the past year, down by about 90 percent compared to this time last year. |

Auto dealer Anderson dies
http://www.omaha.com/article/20090814/NEWS01/908149994
Joe Ruff
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote: | Anderson was the founder and owner of the Performance Auto Group, which includes 11 auto dealerships in Omaha, Lincoln and Kansas City. He came to Omaha in 1957 from Stanton, Iowa, to attend the University of Omaha on a partial athletic scholarship.
His first job during college was pumping gas at a Benson Texaco station owned by Johnny Baxter Chrysler Plymouth. Two years later, he began selling cars part time for Baxter. In 1997, the National Automobile Dealers Association chose Anderson out of 25,000 dealers nationwide as the "New Car Dealer of the Year."
Anderson was passionate about bettering education. He co-founded, with William M. Kizer, a local chapter of the Children's Scholarship Fund to help inner-city students attend private schools. |
